The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and City of Minneapolis Art in Public Places are proud to announce Tableau Congeries, a new mosaic by Craig David, is complete at Currie Park.
The mosaic features stories gathered from conversations with community members from nine cultures that have called Cedar Riverside home, including Mayan, Somali, Oromo, Scandinavia, Czech, Hmong, Korean, Dakota, and Ojibwe.
The central image is an oda or sycamore tree, respected by the Omoro as a symbol of tranquility. It also features an original poem by Deeq Abdi.
Community members assisted the artist in installing the stone and porcelain mosaic by adding tiles during two weekend workshops this past summer.
The new public art is located on the bathroom building that was built along with a new splash pad that debuted last summer. Currie Park is located at 500 15th Ave. S and is open every day, 6 am-midnight.
