Folwell and Fuller Recreation Centers host new robotics and video game design classes for kids

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has partnered with Snapology to host new technology-focused camps and classes at Folwell and Fuller Recreation Centers.

Fuller Recreation Center is offering two Spring Break camps this year: Amazing Animals Robotics and Video Game Design.

Amazing Animals Robotics Camp

Students will work in teams to create a zoo of interactive and mechanical animals. Children will build robotic animals and explore different mechanisms such as tilt and motion sensors, motors and coding skills to help bring their creation to life!

Who: Youth ages 7-13
When: 9 am-Noon, Monday, March 30-Friday, April 3
Where: Fuller Recreation Center, 4802 Grand Ave. S
Cost: $135 ($203 non-Minneapolis residents)

Video Game Design Camp

Students with create their own video game in this awesome Snapology camp. We’ll teach students how to design their very own side-scrolling platforming game with Stencyl game creation software. They even get to take their game home on a flash drive that can be shared and played at home with family and friends.

When: 12:30-3:30 pm, Monday, March 30-Friday, April 3

Folwell Recreation Center has two weekly classes coming up soon: Space Wars Robotics and Creature Creator Robotics.

Space Wars Robotics

Robotics inspired by Star Wars and space travel? How cool! Come on an adventure building and programming functional robots using LEGO® bricks in this super-fun program. Learn about space, space travel and, of course, Star Wars! Build different robots each day!

Who: Youth ages 7-14
When: Mondays, 6:30-7:30 pm, February 17-March 9
Where: Folwell Recreation Center, 1615 Dowling Ave. N
Cost: $30 ($60 non-Minneapolis residents)

Creature Creator Robotics

In Snapology’s Creature Creator Robotics class, students will create their own animal-inspired robotic models. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines and programming as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas and much more. Your child is sure to have a wild time as they build, learn and play.

When: Mondays, 6:30-7:30 pm, March 20-May 11
