As summer arrives, a sea of golden dandelion flowers emerges, adding bright color to the landscape. Bees and other wildlife count on these first arriving flowers for survival
This accomplished plant was originally brought to the United States by colonists who regarded it as a prized salad green with medicinal qualities. Dandelions are the flowers of our childhood, yet these cheerful yellow wildflowers are considered an eyesore and a weed by many.
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is committed to the environmental health of the parks and uses minimal to no herbicides in the majority of our parks to remove these plants. Instead, a 10- to 14- day mowing cycle is utilized to control the naturally growing grasses and plants in the 3,597 acres mowed or maintained annually.
