New Parking Stations Installed

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is replacing outdated parking pay stations across the park system with new, digital pay stations. The new pay stations will allow patrons to use coins or credit cards to pay for parking.

New digital pay stations will be available at:

Pay Lots:

  • Minnehaha Regional Park (seven lots)
  • Lake Nokomis
  • Lake Harriet
  • Lake Calhoun
  • Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden
  • Boom Island
  • Nicollet Island

Additionally, the pay-by-phone feature has been added to existing on-street meters at:

  • Historic Main Street
  • West River Road (at Guthrie Theatre)
  • East River Parkway (south of the hospital, eastbound towards 94 – and – north of the hospital, on the hill between Washington and Arlington), and at Minnehaha Park on-street, north of the dog park and south of 54th Street.

The new digital pay stations listed above are the same as pay stations used by the City of Minneapolis and can use the same MPLS Parking App to pay for, or add more time, remotely with a smart phone. Pay-by-phone users simply sign in, add the applicable space number and the amount of time needed, and enter the preferred payment method. Patrons who use the app will pay 15 cents per transaction and 99 cents a month if they have signed up to be a member for $0.99 per month. Nonmembers will pay 25 cents per transaction.

Other features of the MPLS Parking app include email notification when a meter is about to expire, and the ability to receive receipts. The app can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Not all new parking stations will support the MPLS app/pay-by-phone option. Pay-by-phone is not accepted at coin meters or in pay lots on parkways and in regional parks. The pay stations that support the MPLS app will be clearly marked with ParkMobile stickers and at this time are limited to multi-space on-street meters.

Replacement of the pay stations began in late March and will be completed by May 13.
