MPRB earns national CAPRA accreditation

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce it received re-accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). This distinguished accomplishment is being announced tonight, September 17, 2015, during the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) 2015 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nev.

Earning national accreditation through CAPRA is a thorough, multi-year process. It includes completing an application and self-assessment report, a site visit by a committee comprised of experienced park and recreation professionals and final assessment completed by both the applicant and CAPRA committee.

“I’m thrilled to achieve this remarkable accomplishment and am grateful for all of the hard work that went into earning it,” said MPRB Superintendent Jayne Miller. “CAPRA accreditation helps ensure the millions of annual Minneapolis park users enjoy a top-notch experience.”

Accreditation is based on an agency’s compliance with the 144 different standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations. An accredited agency must comply with all 36 Fundamental Standards and at least 85 percent of the remaining 108 standards (92).

CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation for park and recreation agencies, measuring an agency’s overall quality of operation, management and service to the community. MPRB is one of five Minnesota park agencies and one of only 136 agencies in the United States with this accreditation status, which lasts for five years. MPRB earned CAPRA accreditation in 2010.
