Public Hearing Notice – Fuller Park Playground Improvement Project

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Planning Committee will hold a public hearing for the concept plan to replace the playground equipment at Fuller Park on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the MPRB Headquarters, 2117 W. River Rd., Minneapolis.

The MPRB has allocated $125,000 for the design and construction of a new playground at Fuller Park, which was last renovated in 1994. Adoption of the resolution by the MPRB Board approves the concept plan for the Fuller Park Playground Improvements, setting the stage for 2014 construction.

The concept plan was developed with public input provided through three community meetings and a month-long on-line survey. The Tangletown Neighborhood Association helped publicize the three public meetings to plan the playground improvements.

The new equipment will be installed in the existing play container. The new playground features two composite structures with slides and climbers, one for children ages 5-12, and one for ages 2-5, a net climbing structure for ages 5-12, and swings and independent play features for both age groups. The play surfacing will be engineered wood fiber in the 5-12 play container and sand in the 2-5 container. Both play containers will have poured-in-place rubber surfacing providing accessible routes to selected play components and in high use areas. A fence will be added between Grand Avenue South and the playground. The playground will be accessible to all and meets existing safety guidelines.

The Tangletown Neighborhood Association has donated Neighborhood Revitalization Program funds for two shade structures over the west deck of the wading pool. Installation will occur in early summer.

The community is looking forward to construction of improvements in late summer/fall of 2014 with a possible Grand Opening celebration in late fall or early spring of 2015.

All those attending the public hearing will have an opportunity to review the plans and share their comments with the Planning Committee of the MPRB Board of Commissioners. If you are interested in speaking, you may sign up until 6:30 pm. If you require language translation or other accommodations, please call 612-230-6472 at least two business days prior to the hearing.
