11-4-2020 Superintendent Bangoura Encampment Remarks

Park staff continue to implement Board directives from Resolution 2020-267 enacted by Park Commissioners in mid-July.

As of this morning, there are 44 tents at the following four park sites: Franklin Steele, Minnehaha, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and The Mall.

Many people left park encampments on their own during the last two weeks of October due to the cold weather and snow, and people continue to leave for shelter spaces. Regular outreach and engagement at park encampments remain a priority. As I have shared before during past updates to the Board, and through the recent video shared with commissioners and park employees, park staff have been doing amazing work providing assistance in connecting unsheltered people with available shelter spaces.
