Officers recognized for life-saving actions, de-escalation and service during critical incidents in 2025.
Posted on 13 May, 2026The Minneapolis Park Police Department continues to demonstrate exceptional service, often carrying out critical work without public recognition. In 2025, several officers were formally honored by the Minneapolis Police Department Awards Committee for acts of bravery, professionalism, and dedication to community safety.
Officer Daniel McShane was awarded the Medal of Valor for his response to a dangerous assault incident at Mueller Park, where he engaged in a physical struggle with a suspect who attempted to disarm him, resulting in a firearm discharge at close range. Sergeant Keith Rowland and Officer Morris Dennis received the Excellence in Tactics and De-Escalation Award for their coordinated response to that same incident, helping safely control a highly volatile situation.
Additional recognition was given for response to the mass shooting at Annunciation Church. Officer Morris Dennis was awarded a Medal of Valor for entering the scene, assisting with the evacuation of a critically injured child, and providing protection to displaced children and staff. Officer Nathaniel Farmer received a Medal of Commendation for providing life-saving care and support to an injured child victim, remaining with them through transport to the hospital. Officer James Cannon received an Award of Merit for assisting individuals to safety and supporting search and perimeter operations during the incident.
These recognitions highlight the extraordinary skill, courage, and composure demonstrated by Park Police officers in high-risk situations. Thank you Park Police for everything you do!
