Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board working on repairs at Northeast Ice Arena with goal of reopening in the fall

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is working on a plan to repair Northeast Ice Arena with the goal of reopening for ice season in the fall.

Northeast Ice Arena operates as an ice rink September-February and converts to turf March-August. This year ice season was cut short after a major mechanical failure on February 5, 2026. The arena reopened for turf season in March.

The MPRB is bidding repair work with the goal of returning to ice season on the normal timeline in September. However, the exact repair schedule is still to be determined, depending on bids and procuring the necessary repair materials.

Reservation Holders

The MPRB will proactively communicate with all parties who purchased ice time for the 2026-27 season as more information is available on the repair timeline.
