Parkway, intersection and pedestrian ramp improvements begin at Lake Harriet this year

Aerial view of Lake Harriet

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and City of Minneapolis plan to resurface Lake Harriet Parkway, upgrade pedestrian ramps around the lake and improve the intersection at William Berry Parkway in 2026 and 2027.

Work is planned in phases.

  • Summer 2026: 14 non-accessible pedestrian ramps around Lake Harriet will be upgraded.
  • Fall 2026: Resurfacing of the north end of the park, including improvements to the William Berry Parkway intersection, will begin the Twin Cities Marathon. See map for details.
  • 2027: The remaining sections of Harriet Parkway will be resurfaced.

William Berry Parkway Intersection

The proposed layout for William Berry Parkway intersection improvements is available for public feedback via survey through April 23.

In coordination with the Lake Harriet Parkway Resurfacing project planned for this fall, this project aims to improve safety for trail users, reduce driver confusion and preserve mature trees. The proposed concept plan removes the atypical intersection and replaces it with a standard T-intersection with raised crosswalks for trail crossings and clear sight lines.
