Update on Harrison Park improvements

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to report that the extensive improvements at Harrison Park are virtually complete – and will be fully complete when warmer weather returns next spring.

Playground

This feature opened in early December and includes temporary engineered wood fiber (EWF, or wood mulch) surfacing throughout. Next spring, contractors will install permanent poured-in-place (PIP) rubber surfacing in key areas to enhance accessibility.

Sport Court

This feature is also open for use. Pickleball players can get nets and paddles at Harrison Recreation Center or bring their own. Futsal nets will be installed next spring, with programs available through the recreation center staff (or athletics?)

Plaza

Due to a production delay, the pavilion will be installed in mid-January.

Landscaping

Much of the planting to enhance the park was done in fall, including a community event where volunteers planted 17 trees! Next spring a few additional shrubs and plants will be installed in the naturalized meadow area near the sport court.

Grand Opening Next Spring

Next spring, once the finishing touches on this improvements project are complete, MPRB, neighborhood and school partners and funders will co-host a community celebration.
We’ll share details once they’re confirmed!

Thanks for your support while MPRB works to improve Minneapolis parks.

Enjoy Harrison Park (and Harrison Recreation Center!) this winter!
