Averi M. Turner sworn in as Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board District 2 Commissioner

Turner will serve remainder of term, until Jan. 2, 2026, after previous District 2 Commissioner resigned in October

On Nov. 5, 2025, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Commissioners voted to select Averi M. Turner to fill a District 2 Commissioner vacancy. Turner was sworn in immediately following the vote and will serve the remainder of the term, ending Jan. 2, 2026.

District 2 represents North Minneapolis. The previous District 2 Commissioner, Becka Thompson, resigned on Oct. 3, 2025. Applications to fill the vacancy were accepted between Oct. 10 and Oct. 24.

About Averi M. Turner

Averi M. Turner brings extensive experience as an educator, International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator, instructional coach, and community leader, where she supports inclusive learning environments and leads professional development for teachers across Minnesota. In addition to her work in education, Turner serves on several state boards and advisory committees, where she focuses on equity, leadership development, and youth opportunity.

Her approach to park stewardship blends fiscal responsibility with a deep commitment to equity, environmental sustainability, and community voice. Turner is passionate about ensuring that every Minneapolis resident – especially youth and families – can access and enjoy vibrant, safe, and equitable parks.
