Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is pleased to announce that a new universal design playground just opened atĀ Audubon ParkĀ in northeast Minneapolis, along with several sport courts. The features are part of aĀ major park improvements projectĀ that will be fully completed in spring 2026, followed by a grand opening celebration. (See details below for an informal event this Thursday.)
Playground
By incorporating specific environmental features, play equipment and sensory stimuli, the playground is accessible for as many children as possible, regardless of abilities or disabilities. AĀ Hennepin County Youth Activities GrantĀ supported its design and construction.
Sport Courts
Four new and renovated courts will be painted and striped next spring when temperatures allow; for now, they have temporary striping for ecuavolley and/or pickleball, basketball and futsal soccer.
Other project details
The project also brings new paths, pedestrian lighting, improvements for stormwater management and landscaping to the park.
In additional to painting the courts, remaining work includes installation of benches and a picnic table, expected in early December.
Note: Please stay out of areas with orange fencing, where grass seeds are taking root and growing this fall and next spring!
