Project includes a new Sparkād Studios location, which offers free, top-of-the-line multimedia equipment, programs, and mentorship for youth
Yesterday, October 7, 2025, local students and neighborhood residents joined Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) staff and officials to celebrate the completion of a major building renovation project at Luxton Recreation Center that includes a new Sparkād Studios location.
Sparkād Studios are dedicated spaces where young people can access technology, build creative multimedia skills and explore creative careers. In addition to open studio time, each location offers free programs, projects and mentorship from full-time creative professional staff.
Luxton is the fifth Sparkād Studios location to open in the Minneapolis park system. Others are operating at Powderhorn, Harrison and Whittier recreation centers and the River Hub at Graco Park; a sixth location is planned to open in 2026 at Phillips Community Center.
