Farview Park improvements: Check out the proposed concept design this Friday, December 6, from 5 to 6pm

Opportunities also available online or in person at Farview Recreation Center

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has released a proposed concept design for Phase II improvements at the park, with several options for people to review it (details below).

The proposed design is the culmination of community engagement during summer and fall this year, with community members sharing input on the scope of improvements to be completed for this second-phase project (earlier Farview Park improvements are noted below).

Along with community needs and desires, the concept design also integrates and balances staff input, maintenance and site considerations, goals of the park’s approved long-term plan, and budget constraints. Its features include:

  • New hillside play area expands from the one completed in 2021 and includes features similar to those shown here
  • Seating and planting areas between the athletic field and wading pool, with accessible paths connecting to the play areas and athletic field
  • New full basketball court with lighting improvements
  • New picnic site furnishings by the athletic field and near the wading pool
  • Other improvements including a drinking fountain, ADA path and access upgrades, storage building for Recreation and Facilities and enclosed portable toilet – all by the field
  • Security and lighting improvements
  • Stormwater management

Next Steps

The proposed concept design will be presented to Park Board Commissioners at a future meeting (date to be determined). Following that presentation, commissioners will vote on whether to approve the design. If approved, this project would move to the final design phase, with construction expected in 2025.
