MPRB Lifeguards on Duty Beginning Saturday, June 11

Lifeguards will be on duty at eight of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s 12 authorized beaches beginning Saturday, June 11.

Beaches are open daily 6 am–10 pm, with lifeguards scheduled June 11 to August 28 at the busiest beaches during peak use. MPRB beaches are located at Calhoun, Cedar, Harriet, Hiawatha, Nokomis and Theodore Wirth lakes.

Lifeguards are on duty beginning June 11 from noon-7 pm daily at Cedar Lake East, Lake Harriet North, Lake Calhoun Thomas, Lake Nokomis Main and Theodore Wirth Lake beaches.

Due to a shortage of lifeguards available for the 2016 season, lifeguard services at three smaller beaches will be reduced. Lifeguards will be on duty beginning June 11 from noon–7 pm Saturday and Sunday only at Cedar Point, Calhoun 32nd and Nokomis 50th Avenue beaches.

MPRB is still actively hiring lifeguards for the 2016 season. Qualified applicants can even have their Red Cross certification paid for by the MPRB! Learn more about this opportunity.

On days when the temperature is 85 degrees or warmer at 6 pm, lifeguard hours will be extended to 8 pm. Lifeguards are not provided at Cedar South, Lake Calhoun North, Lake Harriet Southeast and Lake Hiawatha beaches.

Swimming docks are located at Lake Calhoun Thomas, Lake Harriet, and Theodore Wirth Lake beaches. Due to reduced lifeguard services, swimming docks will not be installed at Cedar Point and Lake Nokomis 50th beaches.
