Project background and scope:

Minnehaha Creek and Minnehaha Falls are important cultural, historical, and recreational natural areas within Minnehaha Regional Park. Currently, the south portion of Minnehaha Falls is largely inaccessible to the public due to the deteriorating condition of stairs and walls, eroding slopes, and instability of certain pathways and access points.

The project will seek to assess and rebuild these access points and viewing areas, stabilize and revegetate the eroding slopes and complement the cultural and historically significant landscape of this area while providing safe and convenient access to the Creek, Falls, and other areas of the park. Access and viewing area infrastructure concepts aim to respond to site geologic and hydrologic conditions with a restorative touch on the landscape while complementing the existing early 1900’s and WPA-era remnant infrastructure.

Desired outcomes: Restored access and viewing areas to Minnehaha Creek and Minnehaha Falls that embeds the cultural and historical significance into infrastructure and plantings that are safe, beautiful, enduring, and enjoyable to all.

What we are asking of you: Share your knowledge and opinions of the history, current condition, and future of the site. Tell us why the space is important to you and community, how you currently use the space, and how you would like to use the space in the future.

Please forward appropriately, we appreciate your help to reach community members!
