New Website Creates User-Friendly Experience and Mobile Responsiveness

On Thursday, February 26, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) launched its redesigned website that provides a mobile-friendly experience and focuses on the needs of its website users.

As one of the organization’s most critical communication tools, www.minneapolisparks.org, receives approximately 2.2 million visits each year. Since its launch in 2001, the website had become outdated, with information difficult to find and nearly impossible to read on a smartphone or other mobile device.

The newly designed website features many improvements, including:

  • Mobile-friendly with either a phone or tablet
  • Photos galleries for many MPRB destinations and facilities
  • A well-organized and easy-to-scan mega menu
  • An enhanced search function that makes it easier to find activities or board meeting and agenda items

Users who have saved their most frequently visited pages will need to update their bookmarks as the page URLs will have changed.

The redesigned website was more than two years in the making. MPRB staff worked alongside two local firms, Fredrickson Communications and Clockwork Active Media, to ensure the new site was user-friendly and included suggestions and ideas made by both frequent and occasional MPRB website users.

“The redesigned website is another step toward providing better customer service for Minneapolis residents and park visitors,” said Board President Liz Wielinski. “We made it easier for anyone using our website to find information, register for programs or learn about important topics like emerald ash borer or park improvement projects underway. Through photos and new features, the new website also showcases the beauty and fun found in the parks.”

MPRB staff welcomes all feedback about the redesigned website. Please email any questions, comments or concerns to info@minneapolisparks.org or call 612-230-6400.
