Rink openings likely delayed into January due to unusually warm weather
Posted on 18 December, 2023Staff have been working hard to build ice rinks in parks across Minneapolis, but unusually warm weather could delay rink openings into January.
At this point, consistent below freezing temperatures are needed for 7-10 days to create safe skating surfaces, and the current forecast predicts a sustained pattern of above freezing temperatures through December.
Staff will continue to work tirelessly to open rinks as soon as possible. More updates will be issued as conditions evolve.

Ice Safety
Ice on Minneapolis water bodies is never 100% safe. Do not go out onto ice unless you check ice thickness and find it to be at least 4 inches thick for new, clear ice, or 8 inches thick for white or snow-covered ice.
