This week, contractors working for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will begin the construction phase for the new playground at North Commons Park.
The new playground will remain at the same site since it has large trees that provide significant shade. Contractors will remove existing equipment and prepare the site this fall; next spring, they’ll install new equipment and playground surfacing as soon as weather allows.
During construction, people are encouraged to use nearby playgrounds at Cottage Park, Glen Gale Park, Lovell Square Park and Willard Park.
The design concept for the playground was approved last May and includes a large play structure with inclusive spinning features in both play areas for younger and older children; slides for all ages and abilities; and musical play features.
