New playground at Keewaydin Park features park system’s first bouldering structure

Yesterday evening, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) celebrated the newest playground in the Minneapolis park system at Keewaydin Park. The playground is home to the first bouldering structure in the system, as well as a zipline and other adventure features for all ages, arrayed over varying levels and slopes. MPRB Superintendent Al Bangoura, President Meg Forney and District 5 Commissioner Steffanie Musich joined Keewaydin/Lake Nokomis Community School Principal Kristi Ward for brief remarks and a community photo/ribbon cutting during the park’s summer festival and National Night Out. In addition, staff from the Minneapolis Bouldering Project were on hand to provide bouldering tips!

MPRB is grateful for the support of Lake Nokomis Community School students and teachers, who contributed imaginative and thoughtful input on playground design during the planning process; support from Hennepin County in the form of a Youth Activities grant; and the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association.

See images below and on the Keewaydin Park page – and better yet, head over to the park to check it out for yourself!
