New performance pavilion coming soon to Logan Park!

Volunteer opportunities available to help build the pavilion Aug. 14-22

A new performance pavilion and shelter will be built at Logan Park in August! The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Logan Park Neighborhood Association and local non-profit Spark-Y are partnering in a project to create a new timber frame shelter at the north side of the park, next to the recreation center patio.

The upcoming pavilion at Logan Park will be similar to the picnic shelter that debuted in 2016 at Beltrami Park. It will be built using the timber framing method of construction, a distinctive style of building that uses carefully fitted timbers with complex joints secured by large wooden pegs instead of nails or other mechanical fasteners.

You can help build the shelter and learn about this fascinating style of construction! Use the link below to sign up to volunteer to help build the pavilion. There are two three-hour shifts (9 am-noon and 1-4 pm) every day, August 14-22. Lunch is provided to all volunteers.

The new shelter will provide space for outdoor gatherings as well as a stage for performances in the park. Participants and spectators for the many athletic events and activities in the park will be able to enjoy the pavilion as a gathering area.
