Phelps Park project update: Play areas now open; splash pad design is complete

Construction on the new play area is complete!

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is excited to announce that Phelps Park‘s new and much improved play area is open to the public!

The play equipment provides greater fun and more challenges for kids of all ages, while the surfacing makes both areas for older and younger children more accessible.

Splash pad design update

The design of Phelps Park’s proposed splash pad is almost complete. The park’s wading pool was removed last summer with the intention of replacing it with a new splash pad. The design includes a large open area with a variety of spray jets to run through and around, and a large mist sprayer at the center.

The design is expected to be complete this fall, with construction bids to be submitted this winter. If the bidding process is successful, construction would begin in spring next year. Stay tuned for future updates.
