Discuss proposed plans for parkland near bunny sculpture March 13, 6-7:30 pm at Pearl Recreation Center
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has received a lot of great feedback since it published initial proposed long-term plans for improving and managing Minnehaha Creek and the parkway, parkland and trails adjacent to it through Minneapolis earlier this winter.
Those interested in specifically discussing the area around Portland Avenue and Minnehaha Parkway, near the bunny sculpture (Focus Area 3.1), are encouraged to attend a meeting scheduled Wednesday, March 13, 6-7:30 pm at Pearl Recreation Center, 414 E Diamond Lake Road.
Meeting Overview
- Presentation of the master plan process and ecological and recreational basics
- Summary of community feedback received so far regarding Focus Area 3.1
- Workshop-style discussion of the initial concepts for the area
Meeting attendees should know that the initial concept designs have not yet changed in response to community feedback. The purpose of this meeting is to provide another option to give feedback in person after Open Houses on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and a Community Advisory Committee meeting on Feb. 21.
The drawings must stay the same throughout this group of workshops so people are commenting on the same designs — both in-person and online. At the end of this stage of the project, the drawings will be revised based on community feedback and published again for another round of public review.

Park Design Concepts
These initial park design concepts were created after considering thoughts, ideas and opinions compiled throughout last summer and fall from public events, online surveys that garnered hundreds of comments, and discussions with partner organizations, MPRB staff and stakeholders.
The Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail Master Plan is sorted into four Segments and eight Focus Areas within the segments. One or two preliminary site concepts have been developed for each Focus Area. Each concept contains ideas relating to:
- Trail and parkway realignment
- Stormwater infrastructure and potential creek re-meanders
- Natural resource management areas
- Creek access points
- Recreational amenities
- Precedent (example) images to demonstrate ideas
These concepts are not final. Follow the links below to view and provide feedback online.
Segment 1
Western Minneapolis border to Lake Harriet outlet/west terminus of Minnehaha Parkway.
Segment 2

Segment 3

Segment 4

Comment on Park Design Concepts
This project does not include areas within Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park, which has its own Master Plan that was approved by MPRB Commissioners in March 2015: Nokomis-Hiawatha Regional Park Master Plan
