Work begins next week on transforming three Minnehaha Creek tennis courts

Courts at 30th, 32nd, and 34th Avenues S will be converted into a pollinator lawn, new clay tennis courts, and bike skills course

Three banks of tennis courts, all currently in very poor condition near Minnehaha Creek between Lake Hiawatha and Minnehaha Regional Park, will be removed this spring. This is the first step in transforming these areas as envisioned in Segment 4 of the long-term plan for Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail.

Courts along Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail near the intersections of 30th, 32nd, and 34th Avenues South will be removed starting the week of March 18.

The courts at 30th Avenue will be converted to a pollinator lawn this year. The courts at 32nd and 34th Avenues will be prepared for future planned improvements.

At 32nd Avenue, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is partnering with Minneapolis Community Clay Courts to fundraise for and build clay tennis courts. The MPRB partnered with Minneapolis Community Clay Courts to open the park system’s first clay courts at Waveland Triangle in 2021.

At 34th Avenue, the MPRB plans to work with community collaborators to build a bike skills course that will complement other courses installed in recent years at Hall Park, Bryn Mawr Meadows Park, and Perkins Hill Park.
