Help us design Whittier Park!
Posted on 23 March, 2023Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) staff started community engagement summer of 2022 and worked in collaboration with Teen Teamworks, teen hires, who did cross-age mentoring during the summer programs with Whittier International Elementary School and received community input to develop ideas to improve the existing playground and envision new play space.
These concepts were developed from community input (summer camps, events, pop-ups, onsite visits, etc.). This resulted in the prioritizing of water management, multicourt area for all ages, better connection and flow circulation within the different ages of the play areas, preserving trees, removing existing trip hazards, and the importance of seating areas.
Community members are invited to take an online survey to share their preferences for multicourt and playground layout. Keep in mind that images in the survey are just examples to help guide the design.
