Currie Park splash pad concept approved; construction planned to begin this spring

On January 16, commissioners for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) approved Currie Park’s splash pad concept plan, following a public presentation and hearing (both are available online).

Next steps include:

  • MPRB staff finalizes the project design
  • Contractors bid on construction of the project
  • Construction is expected to begin in late May and finish in the fall

During construction, access to Currie Park will be limited. The athletic field will be available, and most of the rest of the park closed. MPRB recommends people visit nearby parks and facilities, including East Phillips, Elliot, Franklin Steele and Peavey parks and the Phillips Community Center and Aquatics Center.

Watch for a follow-up announcement when a start date for construction is confirmed.
