Charles Rucker chosen for vacant At-Large Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Commissioner position

Charles Rucker

Charles Rucker was chosen to fill a vacant At-Large Commissioner position during a Special Meeting of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) on Nov. 13, 2023.

Rucker will be sworn in at the next Board meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and serve the remainder of the term, until Jan. 2, 2026. His seat is one of three At-Large positions representing all of Minneapolis on the nine-person Board. It was vacated by Alicia D. Crudup, who moved outside of Minneapolis and resigned effective Oct. 30, 2023.

Rucker is a lifelong resident of Minneapolis who works for the Minneapolis Fire Department. He is a long-time volunteer coach and lives in the Willard-Hay neighborhood of North Minneapolis.

Rucker was one of 54 people who applied for the vacant seat. All applications are included in the Special Meeting agenda, which was posted online Nov. 9.

When vacancies on the Park Board exist, the Minneapolis City Charter Section 6.3c states that the “Board, with at least six affirmative votes, may fill any vacancy in its membership.” At their Nov. 1 meeting, MPRB commissioners approved Resolution 2023-210 establishing the process and timelines to fill the vacancy.
