Work Group Meetings for North Service Area Master Plan are open to the public

The public is welcome to attend meetings hosted by four work groups dedicated to particular Northside parks and related topics. The groups are part of the planning process for the North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP) for all neighborhood parks in Minneapolis north of I-394 and west of the Mississippi River.

One work group is dedicated to North Commons Park, while the others focus on Northside parks without recreation centers; parks along Bassett’s Creek in the Bryn Mawr and Harrison neighborhoods; and parkland and trails along Shingle Creek. 

Anyone with an interest in any of these topics or parks is welcome to attend an upcoming meeting or get involved in a work group – see details below.  It’s a great way to have your voice heard.

About the NSAMP work groups

  • Formed at the suggestion of members of the NSAMP Community Advisory Committee (CAC) 
  • Community-led, with support from Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) staff
  • Will delve more deeply into their topics, to tackle some of the more complex portions of the overall NSAMP
  • Will bring recommendations into the park design process
  • Will NOT make any final decisions 

About the upcoming NSAMP work group meetings

Work Group on Parks Without Recreation Centers
Purpose: to develop design principles for parks without recreation centers and ensure they are not forgotten in the overall planning process. This is the work group’s first meeting.

North Commons Work Group
Purpose: to consider the future of North Commons Park. This group previously met on November 14 and 28, 2017
Tuesday, December 12, 2017
9 am at the North Community YMCA, 1711 West Broadway Ave.
6 pm at the North Commons Recreation Center, 1801 James Ave. N.
(these meetings will be the same, participants need attend only one)

Shingle Creek Work Group
Purpose: to consider design ideas for parkland along Shingle Creek, including Creekview Park, Shingle Creek Park, and trails between Webber Park and the northern city limit. This is the work group’s first meeting.

Bassett’s Creek Valley Work Group
Purpose: to consider connections between and design of the parks along Bassett’s Creek in the Bryn Mawr and Harrison neighborhoods. This group previously met on November 27, 2017
