Loppet Foundation Staff Preparing Ski Trails for Winter Use

Loppet foundation staff have been working on ski trails in the southern part of Theodore Wirth Regional Park to prepare them for the upcoming cross-country ski season. The Loppet oversees snowmaking and the new event mountain bike trails north of Plymouth at Wirth Park and cross-country ski trail maintenance across the Minneapolis park system.

Work includes clearing brush from the trails, using equipment to help prevent erosion and create a uniform surface that is easier for walkers and skiers to maneuver, seeding the trails and installing net-less erosion control blanket to help slow future erosion. The Loppet Foundation has a permit from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to perform the maintenance work.

The trails throughout Wirth Park remain open. However, please stay off the trails under restoration, which are roped off. The seed needs time to take root and disturbance of these newly seeded areas can cause more erosion.
