Dickman Park Playground Replacement Begins

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will begin demolition of the existing playground at Dickman Park on Wednesday, June 7.

The new equipment will be installed in the existing play container. It features swings, two play structures for children ages 2-5 and ages 5-12, a seesaw, and a spinning feature. Sand play will be provided in a separate circular container formerly used for tether ball. Two benches will be added for parents. The playground will be accessible to all and meets existing safety guidelines.

The concept plan was developed with public input provided through three community meetings and an on-line survey. St Anthony West Neighborhood Organization (SAWNO) helped publicize the three public meetings to plan the playground improvements.

This project is funded with $200,000 from the MPRB Neighborhood Park Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

Weather and construction schedules permitting, the playground will hopefully be complete and ready for use by June 17th where the Grand Opening will coincide with the SAWNO neighborhood ice cream social. During construction, the playground, tetherball court, and some adjacent park areas will be fenced off and closed. Trucks will also be hauling materials in and out during construction, so parking may be limited and construction traffic will moving around the area. For your safety, please pay attention to signage and stay away from work areas and construction vehicles.

Dickman Park is a 2.11 neighborhood park along the Mississippi River at 2740 Marshall St. NE, in NE Minneapolis. The existing playground was built in 1991 and has exceeded its expected lifespan. Other amenities in the park include an open field, a wading pool, restrooms, basketball court, and a picnic area.
