Waveland Triangle Clay Tennis Courts Grand Opening Invite

The Waveland Triangle Clay Courts is only free public clay court facility in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Clay surface is much softer than asphalt, creating a tennis experience that puts less stress on players’ joints, allowing people to continue to play tennis as they age.

Local non-profit Minneapolis Community Clay Courts donated $120,000 toward construction of the court, including multiple grants from the USTA, and will help maintain the courts through a Stewardship Agreement. An $80,000 Hennepin County Youth Sports Grant, Linden Hills Park Dedication Fees and MPRB Capital Contingency Funds were also sources of funding for this project.

Clay courts were included in the master plan for Waveland Triangle as part of the Southwest Service Area Master Plan, a cohesive long-term plan for all Southwest Minneapolis neighborhood park properties approved by MPRB Commissioners in 2020. Waveland Triangle is located at 4310 Chowen Ave. S. It was first acquired by the MPRB in 1917 and expanded in 1923.
