History

In 2016 the MPRB approved the South Service Area Master Plan, including a plan for Keewaydin Park. The park plan outlined the type and location of recreation elements and landscapes in 30 parks throughout South Minneapolis, but did not determine their specific design.

Keewaydin phase 1 will determine and implement specific designs for several elements prioritized in the master plan. This includes replacing the playground with updated traditional play areas, adding a new climbing wall, and decommissioning the existing wading pool.

Funding

Funding is provided through MPRB’s Capital Improvement Program as well as the 20 Year Neighborhood Park Plan.

This project will begin a first phase of implementation of Keewaydin Park elements identified in the South Service Area Master Plan (SSAMP) which was adopted in 2016. This first phase of Keewaydin Park improvements will begin implementation in 2021.

The total budget for Keewaydin Park phase 1 improvements is $1,318,000. This funding will go towards community engagement, design, play elements, construction, and staff and consultant time. Funding is allocated from the following sources:

NPP20 in 2020 – $226,000
NPP20 in 2021 – $942,000
Hennepin Youth Sports Grant in 2021 – $150,000

TOTAL FUNDING: $1,318,000
