Public hearing for phase 2 improvements is scheduled for November 15

Phase 2 improvements include a new playground and, if funding allows, a new picnic shelter

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will hold a public hearing on proposed improvements for Peavey Park on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 6:45pm at MPRB Headquarters, 2117 West River Road in Minneapolis.

The hearing allows interested members of the public to weigh in on proposed playground and picnic shelter concept plans before the Board of Commissioners. After the hearing is closed, commissioners will consider approval of the plans.

The playground and shelter are part of Phase 2 improvements planned for 2018. Also included are a multi-use field, central path, site grading, and stormwater management. Phase 1 improvements, which include a new basketball court complex, are well underway. All improvements are guided by the approved Peavey Park Master Plan (as part of the South Service Area Master Plan).

Concept plans for the playground and picnic shelter were created based on feedback from stakeholder meetings, on-site engagement, online surveys, a youth design camp and a community charrette.

If the concept plans are approved, construction bids will be awarded in early 2018, with construction during summer of 2018.

Project Funding

  • Ventura Village and Phillips West neighborhood organizations have raised a portion of the funds needed to construct the picnic shelter, but work remains to secure the full amount and donations are welcome. Email peaveyparkgift@gmail.com for information.
  • All other improvements are funded through MPRB’s Capital Improvement Program and an allocation from the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Program.
