Peavey Park’s transformation continues! Phase 2 construction begins July 30Posted on 25 July, 2018
Phillips community leaders and supporters joined with officials from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the City of Minneapolis on July 9 to mark a milestone in Peavey Park’s transformation. A ribbon-cutting event officially opened the park’s new basketball complex, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking for another series of improvements.
On July 30, MPRB officially begins construction on that second phase of the project. Crews will work through fall to build a new multi-use field, new playground and central path through the park, plus grading and additional stormwater-management enhancements.
- Open during construction: Peavey Recreation Center, wading pool and basketball courts.
- Closed during construction: Playground and athletic field; in addition, most of the park will be fenced off.
- Nearby playgrounds and athletic fields are located at Stewart and East Phillips parks.
Special thanks for Peavey Park supporters
US Bank, Franklin Ave Business Association, Hope Academy, Ventura Village and Phillips West have provided generous support for this important community project – including funding for sod on the multi-use athletic field and a picnic pavilion!
