July 9 grand opening and groundbreaking mark new and upcoming park improvements

Join the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and Phillips community supporters for a two-in-one celebration!

  • Grand Opening
    Two old basketball courts were removed and replaced with three full basketball courts, relocated in the northwest corner of the park. The court complex includes new lighting, fencing, paths and rain-garden plantings to manage stormwater runoff. 
  • Groundbreaking 
    These improvements includes a new multi-use field, new playground and central path through the park, plus grading and additional stormwater-management enhancements.

Event details: 

  • Brief program featuring MPRB Superintendent Mary Merrill, Park Board Commissioner AK Hassan and elected officials and community leaders
  • Ribbon-cutting ceremony and lightning round of basketball
  • Ceremonial dig for multi-use field and playground
  • Light summer refreshments
