Board discussion postponed

At the second Hiawatha Golf Course Property Master Plan Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, the CAC passed a motion that reads:

“The Hiawatha Golf Course Community Advisory Committee is requesting the Board of Commissioners to respectfully clarify the existing Resolution 2017-243 to include the exploration of all uses related to a reduced pumping scenario and for all uses related to a circumstance that would perpetuate the current pumping situation.”

The CAC wishes for the MPRB to consider allowing the design team, along with the CAC, to explore both an option to master plan the site based on a reduced groundwater pumping scenario and an option to master plan the site based on a scenario that continues pumping groundwater at current rates to protect existing site uses.

A discussion item regarding the CAC request for the Board of Commissioners to consider master planning for reduced and continued current pumping scenarios was tentatively scheduled for the June 6, 2018 Board meeting, but that discussion has been postponed. Commissioners wish to explore the project and the underlying water management complexities more fully with staff and the MPRB’s consulting engineers prior to a discussion of the requested revision to the CAC charge.

In addition, commissioners have asked staff questions about the position of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources which staff will be coordinating with representatives of the DNR. A notice of the discussion item will be sent to the CAC as soon as it is scheduled.
