4-20-17 Lake Hiawatha Park planning, groundwater/stormwater pumping meeting recap

On April 20, 2017 the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, along with the City of Minneapolis and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, hosted a very eventful evening meeting to gather public input on the Hiawatha Golf Course property.  Meeting attendees were randomly assigned to one of nine groups of 12 to 15 people.  Each group was tasked to review the park use cards and place them on game boards in the area they thought that use should be located.  Each use card had a size value assigned to it, and each area on the game board had a maximum allowable size, so groups were limited to how many uses they could place in any given area.  Uses were also ranked by the groups.  After about 45 minutes, each group stood and was asked to present their findings.   The exercise created a robust and fun dialog between community members and the project staff.  Each game board and all comments related to the exercise have been scanned and saved and are being used to help inform the project staff.
