Join us at Design Week: public workshops for North Minneapolis parks, January 8 and 10

North Minneapolis residents are invited to another opportunity to help set the vision for neighborhood parks in the area.

Since the summer, staff from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the design team have been attending Northside events to listen to community members and collect their ideas about future park and recreation development. This is a key part of developing the North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP): a long-term plan for all neighborhood parks in the area [PDF].

January’s Design Week is the next step for NSAMP. Two intensive creative sessions bring together the public, MPRB staff and designers to collectively develop concepts for Northside parks as part of a shared learning and creative process. In addition, the design team continues its work during Design Week and afterward, using public input collected from the sessions and since the launch of the NSAMP project.

Please join us on Monday, Wednesday – or both days – to share your ideas and respond to design concepts.

Session 1: Monday, January 8 from 6-8 pm

Farview Recreation Center, 621 North 29th Avenue

  • This session also serves as the fifth meeting of NSAMP’s Community Advisory Committee [PDF].
  • Children are welcome; food will be served.

Session 2: Wednesday, January 10 from 5:30-8:00 pm

MPRB Headquarters, 2117 West River Road

  • This session serves as a Community Design Open House, where the public can provide additional input and feedback for the design team.
  • Children are welcome; light refreshments will be available.

Next steps: community workshops in February!

The initial design concepts produced during and after Design Week will be rolled out to the public at a series of community workshops in February. Feedback on these initial concepts is very important in creating a final, approved plan for each park that represents the needs and desires of the community it serves.

Workshop dates will be announced in early January, so watch for an NSAMP update in your email (sign up here if you don’t get them!) or visit the NSAMP project page

Spread the word: Share this email

Forward this to friends, family members, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone else who cares about North Minneapolis’ neighborhood parks, so they can get involved. They can also sign up for email updates – it’s the best way to stay informed about this project.

About the North Service Area Master Plan

The North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP) will create new, long-term plans for all Minneapolis neighborhood parks north of I-394 and west of the Mississippi River. NSAMP will consider how parks are operated, maintained, and improved. It will include plans for all exterior facilities — athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, etc. — but not buildings or recreation centers.
