Theodore Wirth Parkway/Trail temporarily closed between Plymouth Ave and Hwy 55 beginning July 10

Two-day parkway/trail closure expected as construction on site improvements for The Trailhead continue

On Monday, July 10, 2017, both Theodore Wirth Parkway and the Grand Rounds Trail between Highway 55 and Plymouth Avenue will be closed due to construction on site improvements for The Trailhead building. Weather dependent, work is scheduled to be completed in 2 days.

The Grand Rounds Trail will remain open south of the Luce Line Trail, between Highway 55 and the Luce Line Trail connection. The trail will be closed North of the Luce Line connection. Portions of the trail will not be paved until later in the summer but are expected to be usable and passable within 2 days of closure.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board appreciates the public’s patience while work is performed on this project.

Project Information

The parkway closure is necessary for construction in the area of The Trailhead building (formerly the Wirth Adventure Welcome Center). Site work, including new utilities, parking lots, lighting and landscaping will be under construction throughout summer 2017.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new outdoor adventure hub in Wirth Park was held June 6, 2017. Please read The Trailhead Groundbreaking News Release for more information.

Golf course renovations are also underway. A modified course will remain open throughout construction. If you have any specific questions about golf please contact the Theodore Wirth Golf Club at 612-230-6528.
