First two meetings set to help plan future of North Minneapolis neighborhood parks

Passionate about North Minneapolis parks? Attend the first Community Advisory Committee meeting May 24!

The planning process to create new park plans for all the neighborhood parks north of I-394 and west of the Mississippi River is about to begin. The first two meetings of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP) have been scheduled: 

  • CAC Meeting #1: May 24, 6-8 pm at Creekview Recreation Center, 5001 Humboldt Ave.
  • CAC Meeting #2: June 15, 6-8 pm at Harrison Recreation Center, 503 N Irving Ave. 

What is the North Service Area Master Plan?

NSAMP is a unique opportunity to set the vision for north side parks for the coming decades. The project will take a complete look at all outdoor park facilities, create improvement plans for each neighborhood park, and guide decisions on capital improvements—including NPP20 funding allocations.

What is the Community Advisory Committee?

The CAC is a group of community members appointed by MPRB commissioners, Minneapolis city council members and neighborhood organizations to guide. The CAC will work with MPRB staff and consultants over the next 12-18 months to make recommendations to MPRB Commissioners. 

All CAC meetings are open to the public and each meeting will have an opportunity for public comment. Please call (612) 230-6472 or email planning@minneapolisparks.org at least two business days in advance of the meeting if you require reasonable modification or language translation. 

Other ways to get involved

In addition to serving on the CAC, there will be many other ways to get involved in the project:

  • Sign up to receive email updates by subscribing at www.minneapolisparks.org/subscribe. If you are already a subscriber, add “North Service Area Master Plan” to your subscription preferences. Email updates are the best way to stay informed about meeting dates.
  • Attend other public meetings. Though they have not yet been scheduled, MPRB expects numerous community meetings throughout the spring and summer of 2017.
