Seeking Construction Bids for Bryant Square Park Wading Pool Improvements

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is seeking bids for the construction of wading pools at Bryant Square Park and Logan Park.  Bids will be opened on February 15.  The existing pools will be opened at the beginning of the summer for park patron enjoyment and will close in mid-July for construction.  The new pools will be open for the full summer season in 2018.

Community engagement for the design of the pools occurred in early 2016. The CARAG neighborhood association contributed $50,000  towards  pool and park amenities such as shade structures and water play elements. However, the bids received for 2016 construction exceeded the available funding.  More funding was identified in the 2017 CIP (Capital Improvement Plan) and the project is being rebid for the 2017 construction season.

A new mechanical building will be constructed on the north side of the pool, resulting in a slight increase in impervious surface in the park.  The additional run-off is being infiltrated in a lawn area next to the pool and is approved by permit from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.  Interested parties may request that a public hearing on this permit application:

16-375:  The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has applied for a Minnehaha Creek Watershed District permit for Erosion Control and Stormwater Management for redevelopment of the municipal wading pool at the Bryant Square Park in the City of Minneapolis. This project will result in a 500-square foot increase of impervious surface area on the 3.66-acre area. Stormwater will be treated through filtration. This parcel ultimately drains to Lake Calhoun.

Individuals with questions or concerns regarding this permit may contact Rachel Workin at 952-641-4518 or rworkin@minnehahacreek.org.

Interested parties may request that a public hearing on this permit application be scheduled before the MCWD Board of Managers.  Requests for a public hearing must be in writing and received at the MCWD offices prior to 4:30 pm, February 9, 2017.
