Celebrate the new McRae Park athletic field at groundbreaking ceremony July 7, 2016

Please join the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), Hennepin County and McRae Park athletics supporters Thursday, July 7 at noon for a special groundbreaking ceremony commemorating the beginning of construction on the new athletic field.

The project will create an improved, rebuilt natural turf athletic field with better drainage. It also includes the installation of a new drinking fountain on the field on the removal of unused goalposts.

The football and baseball fields will close when construction begins July 11 and will not reopen until summer 2017. Work is expected to be completed by fall 2016, but the new natural turf field will need several months in the spring to properly establish before it is ready for use. Next winter (2016-17) the broomball rinks will be moved to a nearby location.

Join the passionate McRae athletics community to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in its storied history! The event will feature light refreshments and short speeches from MPRB Commissioner Steffanie Musich, Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and key community members who helped make this project possible.
