Community Engagement

Community Engagement Plan [PDF]

Community engagement is expected to begin in May 2015 and extend through the summer. Community engagement will be combined with the South Service Area Master Plan and RecQuest projects as much as possible to maximize the opportunities for feedback.

2017 Fall Engagement

Based on additional engagement over the summer of 2016, staff revised equipment selections and reviewed them with community members on a busy Monday night at the Powderhorn Recreation Center.  Input from that night was combined with input from Online Survey #3. View the input [PDF]. Staff made minor revisions to the equipment based on the comments received in the fall of 2017.

2016 Summer Engagement

While doing engagement for the South Service Area, staff reopened the engagement process for the playground and asked community members about additional playground options.  See the results of the 2016 Summer Engagement efforts [PDF] (2016-07-09 Yoga Morning, 2016-07-18 Zumba and Ecuavolley Night, 2016-07-27 Community Workshop).

Background

The purpose of this project is to provide improved wading pool and playground areas. The existing playground equipment at Powderhorn Park was installed in 1989, the wading pool was constructed in 1971, and neither amenities meet current safety and accessibility standards. The pool and playground locations, adjacent amenities such as pathways and seating, play equipment, fencing, shade structures, site drainage, play surfacing, and the construction season may be impacted and will be discussed with the community.
