Current Phase: Construction

This project may require road closures.

The Veterans Home Bridge, formerly known as the Old Soldiers Home Bridge, is located near 5101 Minnehaha Avenue downstream of Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The bridge provides access to the Veterans Home across the Minnehaha Creek gorge. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has assigned the bridge number 5756 for use in the State bridge database.

The State has hired Rainbow, Inc. to perform repairs and strengthen the bridge.  This will allow the bridge to be reopened for public use late summer of 2018.

Construction is expected to start October 9, 2017 and continue until July 30, 2018.  During construction, portions of the trail system below the bridge will be closed for safety as repairs and painting are being performed.  The first trail closure will start on October 16, 2017 and is expected to remain closed until December 8, 2017.  The trail under the bridge will be closed between 7:00 am on Monday and 6:00 pm Friday.  The trail will be open through the duration of the project on the weekends and holidays.  Future trail closures will be updated and posted as the date is closer, but is expected to occur around June 2018.
