Webber Natural Swimming Pool closed this weekend

The Webber Natural Swimming Pool (NSP) will be closed until Tuesday, July 10, 2018 due to water quality issues.

Webber NSP is always closed Mondays for testing and maintenance. It will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 if test results improve to meet the MPRB’s standards for NSPs.

The popular pool was the first public natural swimming pool to open in North America. NSPs use filters and plants, not chemicals, to clean its water. Learn more about NSPs under the “How NSPs Work” tab at www.minneapolisparks.org/webberpool.

Since becoming the first public agency in North America to operate an NSP in 2015, the MPRB has worked tirelessly to research and implement best practices for keeping the pool clean and safe. Efforts include:

  • Building a new flood wall this spring to handle stormwater runoff at the intersection of Webber Parkway and Dupont Avenue N
  • Installing wildlife deterrents
  • Discussions with NSP operators from around the world
  • Educating pool users on how they can help keep the pool clean

The MPRB maintains a stringent testing standard to ensure the pool is safe for swimming. Webber NSP is tested for three types of bacteria up to three times per week. The proactive approach has resulted in zero reported swimming-related illnesses from Webber NSP. Fortunately, there are many areas in nearby Minneapolis Parks to cool off:

  • North Commons Water Park is open Monday- Friday, 1-7 pm; Saturday-Sunday 11 am-7 pm
  • Wirth Lake Beach is open daily noon-7 pm
  • Wading Pools Ten wading pools are open in North Minneapolis: Bethune, Bohanon, Cleveland, Farview, Hall, Harrison, Jordan, Shingle Creek, Victory and Willard Parks. Another three wading pools are open in Northeast Minneapolis within three miles of Webber NSP: Bottineau, Hi-View and Marshall Terrace Parks. All Minneapolis Parks wading pools are open daily 10 am-9 pm.
