SUMMARY:South Service Area Master Plan Public Hearing
DESCRIPTION:The South Service area master plan is the result of nearly two years of community-based planning and design.  It reflects community desires for all outdoor facilities in south Minneapolis parks and will guide capital improvements over the next 20-30 years. It is based on the recommendations of an appointed Community Advisory Committee (CAC)\, which met eleven times\, and also from public input received during more than 100 community events. The previously issued draft master plan has been revised based on public comment and MPRB staff comment. The final plan to be considered for approval will be made available to the public when the Board Meeting agenda and information packet is made public on Fri.\, Sept. 16\, prior to the Sept. 21 Board meeting.  At that time the public may access the document and all supporting materials via the project page. DESCRIPTION:The CARAG neighborhood association\, Volunteers of America Southwest Senior Center and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board have worked with the community over the last year to create beautiful mosaic murals that will soon be attached to exterior of the Bryant Square Recreation Center.  \nCommunity members are invited to celebrate the project and witness the unveiling of five art pieces on Sunday\, Sept. 25\, 1 pm at Bryant Square Recreation Center\, 3101 Bryant Ave. S. \nThe mosaic mural designs were developed through a series of artist-led Visioning Workshops\, in which the community identified images and themes. Community volunteers participated in dozens of workshops to prepare tiles\, assemble mosaics\, and grout/thin-set mosaics. \nAlmost 200 neighbors of different ages and backgrounds were able to work together to create what is truly a community art project. DESCRIPTION:The tour from 5– 6 pm will give participants a chance to visit the Phase 1 portions of the site. Please note that the site is industrial in nature\, may not be safe for children\, and may require walking on rough terrain.  Participants should dress accordingly\, including sturdy shoes. A liability waiver will be required of all participants. (Note: This tour is intended for community members. If you are with a firm interested in development and/or business on the site\, we ask that you not take these spaces.) \nFrom 5–6:30 pm\, you may view the 3-D model built by Juxtaposition Arts apprentices to encourage visioning and discussion for the Phase 1 portion of the site.
