Update: Northern Columbia Golf Course Stormwater Management

In 2019, the project partners met with local neighborhood organizations, shared an online survey, distributed comment cards, and hosted a public open house to gather input and field questions.

Southern Area of Columbia Golf Course

Many questions we received concern the known issues in the southern portion of the golf course. We have been and will continue monitoring the water levels in that area at least through 2021. Our hope is to gain a better understanding of how water moves both above and below ground. This data will then inform future analysis and design for that area of the course.

Next Steps

The project partners are finalizing designs and preparing construction documents for the first phase of work in the northern portion of the golf course and Columbia Park. We anticipate the project will go out to bid for construction this spring. Construction may start as early as summer 2020 in Columbia Park, then extend to the golf course after the primary golf season, after Labor Day 2020. It’s likely the construction will extend into early 2021, and vegetation restoration work would happen in the spring of 2021.

About the Project

New stormwater best management practices (BMPs) at the Columbia Golf Course will improve stormwater quality, mitigate flooding, improve ecological systems and enhance recreational opportunities in Northeast Minneapolis. The project is part of the Northeast Stormwater Management Initiative.
