Construction of the N. Columbia Golf Course and Park Stormwater BMPs project has begun

Construction began on October 26, 2020 led by partnering agency, the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO). Phase 1 of the project (October 2020 – February 2021) includes removal/abandonment of the old stormsewer in the northern half of the golf course and through Columbia Park, construction of the new stormsewer, tunneling under the Canadian Pacific Railway, earthwork, and mass grading. Phase 2 of the project (May 2021 – August 2021) includes final grading, park and golf course restoration, and native seeding for permanent restoration. There are temporary impacts due to project construction, including:

  • Construction vehicles on Columbia Parkway and Central Avenue
  • 5th street closure approximately 10/28 – 11/27/2020
  • Park parking lot closure for duration of project (staging area)
  • Closure of trail on west side of golf course for the duration of the project
  • Pedestrians and bicycles detoured to west side of 5th Street up to 35th Ave NE
  • once 5th St reopens – bicycles use 5th Street and Columbia Parkway, full lane
  • Columbia picnic shelter rental closed through July 2021
  • Park multi-purpose athletic field closed through July 2021
  • Columbia Golf Course – temporary reduction from 18 holes to 11 holes through August 2021
  • Tot playground equipment replacement after project
  • Impacts to trees
  • Tree replacement in restoration plan
