Sledding Near Theodore Wirth Park
Sunset Hill is the designated sledding nearest to Wirth Park; it’s located just a half-mile north of the Wirth Winter Recreation Area on Theodore Wirth Parkway at 26th Ave. N in Valley View Park. Admission is free, bring your own sled, snow tube or toboggan. Call 763-522-4584 for more information.
Wirth Winter Park is an amazing facility to host special events. We offer private banquet facilities with catering services, a snowboarding hill with rental equipment and instructors, a tubing hill with tow rope and free wi-fi.
Sledding at Columbia
The designated sledding hill at Columbia Golf Club is one of the steepest hills in northeast Minneapolis. Bring your own sled; snow tube rentals are also available for $5. Concessions are available in the Golf Clubhouse, which is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and school release days. Closed Dec. 24-25. Call 612-789-2627 for more information.
Best Place to Go Sledding – Columbia Golf Course
Note: The MPRB recognizes that sledding occurs at other parks on an “at your own risk” basis. While some parks are more sled-friendly than others, please exercise caution when using these non-designated sledding areas; never sled toward traffic and avoid hills with trees nearby.
Snowshoeing
MPRB Naturalist-led snowshoeing programs are available throughout the winter at such venues as Minnehaha Park, Lake Calhoun and Theodore Wirth Park. The naturalist programs provide snowshoes as part of the fees. Call 612-313-7725 for more information.
If you’re snowshoeing on your own, the Wirth Off-Road Cycling Course has some of the best trails. Snowshoe rentals ($10) are available at the Theodore Wirth Chalet; call 763-522-4584.
